EllisIslandRecords.org
database for U.S. immigrant genealogical research opens. HavenWorks
-20010417
Because genealogical research is an essential
part of Mormon's religious beliefs, they (the Church of Latter Day Saints
[LDS]) have made extensive efforts
to make genealogical records available to the public.
They have contributed substantial resources
to compile both familysearch.org
and ellisislandrecords.org
and have made commitments to sustain continued research.
Don't be surprised if you have a difficult time
accessing the site in its early days, even at 3 a.m. the morning after
it was announced they were inundated with people trying to get into the
site.
